Chaperone Policy

Station House Surgry is committed to providing a safe and comfortable environment and strives to achieve good practice at all times.

All patients have the right to a chaperone for examinations, particularly those of an intimate nature.  Clinicians at this practice will seek consent to an examination and advise patients that a chaperone is necessry during any intimate examination. This is to safeguard both the clinician and the patient.

A chaperone is a trained, impartial observer present during an intimate examination of a patient.

At Station House Surgery chaperones are health professionals, familiar with the procedures involved in the examination and have received chaperone training.

A relative or friend is not an impartial observer and would not usually be a suitable chaperone.  However, we will facilitate a reasonable request to have a relative or friend present, as well as a chaperone.

Where a chaperone is not available, the clinician will ask you to re-book a new appointment when a chaperone is available.

Patients may also request a chaperone when making an appointment, on arrival at the surgery (please let the receptionist know) or at any time during a consultation.
